Gnomies!!!

Thursday Jan 19 2012

Okay, this is admittedly the first post in a while – what can I say? Um…. Happy New Year!!! or something to break the ice perhaps ;)

I do want to try and update more often this year – sort of a resolution of mine, but to be honest, the hardest part of doing that is actually finding something useful to share, I like to keep my posts as interesting as possible for someone reading them goodness knows how many blogs I’ve trudged through and came out yawning.

Perhaps its the case where blogs are getting less and less popular, unless the blog is from an organisation with new news to share. A personal blog seems empty somehow, given how much awesome content is out there just waiting to be picked.

From that rather ingenious segway (unplanned) I’d like to bring attention to a site and its brand new service to the fore, http://www.lockergnome.com. I found the site completely by accident, having read some articles(and TV advertisements admittedly) on Google’s Chromebook/Chrome OS, I was interested and sought to find out how it runs and looks. Since I’m not one really to fall foul to propaganda which, lets face it is what TV Advertisements are, I decided to go onto Youtube and see what people were saying about it.

That’s when a video segment from Chris Pirillo turned up along with a couple of others, including the official Google videos for it(more propaganda). So I watched Chris’s video, and saw it was a smaller segment of an hour long video of straight tech-news, further investigation showed that Chris does these every day which instantly got my attention as something above and beyond what I had ever seen before, moreover the actual video was less than a day old – a very rare thing for Youtube searches let me tell you!

After watching a couple of the long-length daily reports I found I liked the way he had fun with the camera, injected some interesting news and opinion and also the way he treated the special community of ‘Gnomies’ which he had literally just launched. I thought the idea very innovative, interesting and worth investigating farther. He makes no bones about the fact that this community are VIPs and given VIP treatment in his videos, he answers ANY question posed by a Gnomie on a higher priority basis than his wide-ranging open community. He also provides exclusive access to ‘behind the scenes’ videos, blogs and a library of information in the form of ebooks that have been previously written, and sold on the http://gnometomes.com website. Not only that but he also wishes to deliver exclusive discounts and coupons that he negotiates with partners all for the VIP Gnomie community with further promises of more and more content to come.

Imagine then, my surprise, when I started chatting with some of the other Gnomie people on the same night in the private chatroom and mentioned that I’d seen just a few videos of the mountain of them that Chris has been sharing for years and from those few, decided to join up only to be greeted the very next day on his live report video that I had been made Gnomie of the day for choosing to support him from that limited sample!

Talk about VIP treatment! ROCK ON CHRIS!

Lets take an aside from that, and talk a little bit about my motivations behind the decision. On Youtube there are loads of content creators that expend their spare time, energy and effort into building a port-folio of sorts full of interesting subjects, facts and tutorials all in high quality video and, here’s the pinch ALL FOR FREE despite the costs incurred by the producer to make them. For me, I admire this so much that if I have a chance and, have the means of course, I choose to support them in any way that I can and in Chris’s case, I became a Gnomie to do just that.

If you’ve read this far, Thank you! :) I would love to hear any comments and thoughts and in fact ;) let me take a page from Chris’s book and ask if you read this far, comment “Gnomie!!!!” If a few (and I mean, just a few!) people do this it’ll motivate me to write more often!

:) I’ll certainly be thinking an awful lot more about it – Interests being spurred by being a Gnomie – without that interest, well you end up getting less and less motivated! Thank you!

I just became a Gnomie Last Night, I haven’t even barely begun to use the Gnomie Site yet, and I have already received excellent customer Service. Chris Personally helped me get my account set up straightened out and I am going to sign up for the Code Camp. Good job on keeping me engaged for the entire Blog.
